During the COVID-19 pandemic, we are your support team in managing family court issues, real estate matters, and wills and estate planning remotely. While the Ontario government has deemed law offices and paralegal offices as essential workplaces, and has allowed them to remain open, they are encouraged to use remote business models. This impacts legal operations related to Family Law, Real Estate, and Wills and Estate Planning.
Here is how Howard Nightingale Professional Corporation is helping clients manage their legal matters remotely:
Family Law
As of April 7, Ontario courts are open only for what they deem ‘urgent’ family court matters, which will be dealt with on a prioritized basis. These matters include:
- Place of safety hearings
- Temporary care and custody hearings
- Restraining orders
- Status review hearings
- Secure treatment orders
- Abduction cases
- Family Responsibility and Support Arrears cases

Courts will not allow a new case to be filed unless it is an ‘urgent’ matter. Our team will help you determine whether or not your case is considered by the court to be ‘urgent.’ And if it’s not, we’ll help you find other ways to manage your situation legally and safely.
Real Estate
If you are buying, selling or looking for a home, you are not alone in having questions right now. We can help you handle your real estate legal documents remotely.
We have recently assisted real estate customers with this. Working remotely with them, we have taken them through the protocol and provided them with the necessary documents, guided them through the whole process of signing the documents, recorded the meeting on Zoom, and received their signed papers by Purolator the next day.
Wills and Estate Planning
Many people, worried about the potential impact of COVID-19, are now hastening to create or revise their wills. While access to lawyers has been greatly reduced, our firm remains open to assist with virtual signings of wills and powers of attorney. We’ve already helped several clients manage their wills and estate planning remotely, including the signing of documents.
